Mornin Mates...
Today's Topic = Spring Has Sprung
March Madness without our Sun Devils participating is upon us, once again, and MLB will be playing baseball, after all, as owners and players come to an agreement to play ball this coming season...
At least other teams won't be pursuing Bobby Hurley, which has to be a silver lining of sorts, but he will be on the proverbial "hot seat" next season, after posting back to back lousy seasons...
As long as the fans don't turn on him he should be okay since the Devils were second in the PAC in home attendance from what I've read...
However, it does get old having to watch the Cats regularly bask in the glory of March Madness while we continuously sit at home, rooting against the Cats, to get our satisfaction, if and when they lose...
Well, it's just part of our Battered Fan Syndrome but at least Spring football will start this week and we've beaten the Cats the past five years and aim to make it six this upcoming season...
I'm looking forward to seeing who wins the starting QB job now that Jayden has left and is no longer guaranteed the job by Herm, no matter what...
It would appear to be a David and Goliath sort of match up with Paul Tyson, a former 4-5 star recruit who went to Alabama, versus a former, not highly rated, walk-on QB from Marana, down here in So Arizona...
Tyson measures in at 6'5" 235 vs Trent who measures in at 5'11" 180 which is a swing of about 6" in height and 55 pounds in weight...
Having watched Trent play a lot of HS football games, I know that he has a very high football IQ and wants to be a coach someday, and I have no doubt that he will do so, with much success, after his playing career is over at ASU...
Neither Tyson or Trent is all that mobile the way Jayden was but both are probably much more accurate passers with higher football IQs than JD...
But, time will tell how much any of that will all matter in the coming months of Sun Devil football, right..??
I'll also be watching how our new OC approaches the game and suspect that he will use a lot of Stanford type concepts built around having a pro style QB in Paul Tyson, who I'm sure will win the QB battle...
This will fit Herm's offensive philosophy and as long as the other offensive pieces work out we should be pretty good offensively...
The other big question looming on the horizon is the NCAA investigation and where it stands in terms of releasing a Notice of Allegations to ASU regarding purported recruiting violations in our football program...
The NOA was the kiss of death for Sean Miller at AU and Will Wade at LSU, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out this year...
It looks like ASU will most probably agree with the facts listed in the NOA and have sanctions in place that the NCAA may agree with, as adequate punishment, in order to avoid a drawn out dispositional hearing, after the allegations are received by ASU...
Where this will leave Herm is anyone's guess, at this point, but, if he is listed in the allegations, I don't see how he could avoid not being let go by the school...
This is nothing new and not something that any of us are looking forward to but it will impact where we are going with our football program sooner rather than later...
Herm has held the program together and it would be nice for him to ride off into the sunset with another good season under his belt...
This scandal has only been going on for about a year and if we get it all resolved within two years, with a summary disposition, that would be a relief, right..??
In the meantime, spring has sprung, with the temperatures rising and with the smells of peanuts and cracker jacks in the air...
The new ice hockey arena is coming on line and our golf teams are very good so what's not to like this spring...
So, do you all think that Bobby should be on the "hot seat" next season..??
Who are you rooting for in the football QB competition this spring and beyond...David or Goliath..??
Will this roster be the best for Herm's style of play since he has been at ASU..??
Can we contend for a PAC championship this coming football season..??
When do you think the NCAA Notice of Allegations will arrive at ASU's doorstep..??
And, what's the best possible outcome for ASU once the NOA arrives..??
G'day Mates and Go Devils!!!
