Mornin Mates...
Today's Topic = Finding Sun Devil Financial Athletic Support
It may be much closer than most of us realize, I think, but it would take some real imagination, savvy and moxie by ASU to corral it...
So, here are some dots to connect using your imagination...
Did you know that ASU has well over 1,000 alumni from Saudi Arabia and that the Saudi's have a $600 billion dollar Public Investment Fund that is now being used to underwrite the LIV professional golf tour and they own the Newcastle United Football Club which is a professional soccer franchise in England...
Did you know that former Sun Devil great - Phil Mickelson - has financed the Phil and Amy Mickelson Player Development Facility at the Thunderbird Golf Complex which is home to our Sun Devil men and women golf programs at the Papago Golf Course not too far from our Tempe campus...
Did you also know that the Saudi's have paid Phil a reported $200M to play in their LIV golf tour, that just finished their first event in England, won by former Masters champion, Charl Schwartzel...
Schwartzel won $4.75 million for his efforts by winning the richest golf tournament in history...
He also said, when asked about receiving (tainted) Saudi prize money, that if you dig into the backgrounds of most sponsorships, questions may arise about the respectability surrounding the prize money, wherever it comes from...
Twenty PGA golfers have given up their PGA memberships to now be part of the LIV tour that has 54 hole tournaments, hence the Roman numerals LIV, because the pay is better, just like when many college athletes are now transferring to other programs to enhance their NIL paydays while playing whatever college sport they participate in, etc...
Additionally, did you know that the Saudi's have financed ($1 Billion) a Lucid Motor factory in Casa Grande, AZ, and will be purchasing 100,000 electric cars from Lucid over the next ten years...
Lucid is trying to compete with Tesla and may be able to do so with Saudi backing and Lucid is now building an electric car factory in Saudi Arabia to Advance Global Sustainability...
Ah, and there you have it my friends, the catch-all phase that president Crow is wild about...Advancing Global Sustainability through business and sports arrangements...
So, with all this going on for ASU why couldn't we tap the Saudi fund or funds to underwrite student-athletic sustainability initiatives..??
How about Sun Devil Stadium being known as the Advanced Global Sustainability and Diversity Stadium for the New American University of our times...
There's a lot of money out there if you just know where to find it and leverage it...
G'day Mates and Go Devils!!!
