Mornin Mates...

Today's Topic = April Fools Day

Yes, that was yesterday but it was a great day to be an Aztec since they beat Florida Atlantic, with a buzzer beater, to advance to the national championship game against UConn tomorrow night...

Thanks to San Diego State, who would like to join the PAC, it seems, the Mtn West Conference will split about $16M bucks over the next six years...

This means that each conference member will get something like $1.5M each year over that span of time...

The SDSU contribution, so far, amounts to about $10M of that overall jackpot, which puts the Mtn West in the top six BB money distribution conferences...

The PAC isn't in the Top Six and who knows where they stand overall but it's classic PAC underachievement, if you ask me, for the "Conference of Champions"...

BTW, Nevada, who ASU beat in the play-in tournament game in Dayton, beat the mighty Aztecs during the season...

So, what would a present day April Fools look like for the PAC if SDSU decided to join the Big 12 instead of the PAC-10..??

Since we still haven't heard about a new media rights deal for our conference, much less about any anticipated expansion, what would keep the Aztecs, who are on a roll, from jumping to the Big 12, while the PAC continues to dither...

It would appear that the PAC was caught totally off-guard by the defections of USC and UCLA and are now, as a result, delegated to "limbo land" where dumb dinosaurs go to die...

So, is the PAC going to be caught off-guard, once again, by letting SDSU take what the Big 12 can pay them, rather than wait for the PAC to get its act together, maybe, sometime this year...

As an aside, it was good to see Bobby at the Final Four game last night, where his brother, Danny, coached the Huskies to the championship game against the Aztecs Monday...

Their father was there and the Hurley name was bantered about by commentators, especially at the end of the game, and that can't hurt ASU, one bit, from a publicity point of view, IMHO...

It sure looks like we are going to need all the help we can get for our men's BB program moving forward, as the roster will need to be revamped in a big way, given what is going on in the transfer portal, etc...

In some other PAC news, the Colorado spring football game is sold out according to press reports, so there is a lot of excitement in Boulder these days, given the hiring of Prime Time as the Buffs new coach...

Additionally, UCLA football has hired former Navy coach, Ken Niumatalolo, as its Director of Leadership and we'll see what that means as the Bruins head for the Big 10 next year...

In ASU news, the baseball team appears to be headed in the right direction, these days, despite losing last night to the Bears at Cal...

The team was picked, in the preseason, to finish 6th in the PAC and, right now, it looks like they might finish ahead of that projection, if they keep winning more than they are losing...

No games are easy in the PAC, especially on the road...

In football, I doubt that our spring game will be "sold out" but it seems to be making good progress under Dilly and his staff...

Now, if we could just get our AD to hand in his resignation and hire someone like the Aztecs AD - John David Wicker (a Miss St grad) - who is in his early 50s, and whose athletic dept has won (not aspired to) football conference championships, multiple men's BB championships, and baseball championships...

Since his hiring in 2016, his athletic dept has won over 20 championships and this year his men's BB team has made it to the NCAA championship game...

So, where are the red hot Aztecs going to end up in the coming weeks or months..??

The Big 12 or the dithering PAC..??

G'day Mates and Go Devils!!!
