Today's Topic = Countdown to Kickoff
We're now into July which means that we are only about a month away from Fall camp...
I guess we have just about all of our players enrolled in school, at this point, which is good news...
Questions remain about both of our lines but it appears to me that we have much more overall talent, at just about every position, than what we had last year at this time...
I'm curious as to where the preseason PAC media will place us in the conference scheme of things and it most likely won't be very good...
But, not mine, as I think this team will end up surprising a lot of people when things are all said and done, as you all know...
I wasn't surprised by what Trenton did last season since I saw him play in Marana, where he starred at QB, and set all kinds of records...
And, he has a stellar receiving corps and strong RB corps to balance things out, nicely, in my estimation...
Dilly's offense is built for someone like Trent who guided his HS - 7 on 7 teams - to national championships...
I'm also looking forward to seeing what our new DC does with the players he has brought in to run his defense at ASU...
They will attack and confuse offenses like his defense did at Wazzu...
Wazzu was 3rd in the PAC last season, by only allowing 22.9 points per game, while ASU was 9th, allowing 31.4 PPG...
Wazzu was 4th in the PAC last year with totaling 33 sacks, while ASU was 10th, with only 17 sacks all season...
ASU was 8th in PAC in scoring 26.1 PPG, so if Dilly and his OC can ramp that up by around a TD a game, the Devils will score over 30 pts per game...
And, if our defense can cut our average points allowed per game by a TD, that would put us at about what Wazzu did last year when they went 7-5 and 4-5 before losing to Fresno St in the LA Bowl to finish 7-6...
So, I'm thinking we're going to be that much better this season under our new head coach, new OC, and new DC, despite all the disrespect the team will get from the media in the preseason...
I think we will average over 30 pts per game on offense and average only giving up around 24 pts per game on defense, given the way I see things, especially since we have eight home games, too...
Now moving onto other things...
I see where ESPN cut about 20 highly paid broadcasters from their network sports shows that included college football personalities David Pollack and Todd McShay, etc...
No mention has been made about The Herminator who wasn't being paid anywhere near what most of those listed above were being paid but more layoffs are expected, as Disney works to stop the red ink bleeding within its ESPN sports division...
I don't have any idea what this means for a new PAC media deal but I cannot believe, in this economic environment, that the network is going to be throwing a lot of money the PAC's way...
It was also a little unsettling to see that San Diego State has opted to stay put, for the time being, in the MWC...
Oh well, nothing that the PAC does or doesn't do surprises me in the least, any more...
It looks like we might be getting another commitment from recruits in the next week or two so that's a positive in addition to looking forward to another Sun Devil football season...
