Sun Devil victories in any sport bring a smile to my face as do AU defeats especially in sports like basketball...
Last night, the Cats were defeated by BYU by a point (96-95) after a Cougar was fouled with little time left and then sank two free throws to win the game for BYU...
Of course, the AU fans, not being accustomed to losing in McKale, let the BYU team have it, with an ugly chant, as they left the court...(screw the Mormons although more profane than that)...
That made the Cats AD for the school issue an apology to BYU that was picked up by all the media services around the country...
The Cougars were only 10-14 from the FT line compared to the Cats being 21-25 which is par for the course in McKale as we all know...
But, the highly organized BYU team, coached by former Suns assistant, Kevin Young (43), countered with 55% from the field and 45% from three point range to be in a position to win at the end...
BYU and Utah, for that matter, have their own Activate the Greater Salt Lake region when it comes to coaching hires, as Kevin was born in SLC, so he has returned home so to speak...
It should be noted that BYU plays in the Marriott Center that was built in the 70s, when the Sun Devils arena was also built, and has been renovated several times that has reduced seating from over 22K to around 18K now...
For the past 41 years, BYU has averaged more than 15 thousand fans per games played there...
How many times has our BB arena been renovated over the same time span..??
So, it's good to know that our AD - Graham Rossini - has said that DFA will finally be renovated in the near future...
AU has spent around $125M this past decade renovating McKale or as they like to say down here "refreshing" the arena since they are a big deal after all...
Unfortunately, as we all know, Sun Devil BB is nowhere near a big deal in Tempe or the Valley but it would be nice to have a "refreshed" arena too, wouldn't it..??
If it was only a matter of Sparky taking a shower and drinking some fresh brewed coffee to take care of the dreadful BB situation we are currently living with...
But, as we all know, we are going to need a new coach like what the Cougars found with Kevin Young in Provo in order to truly "refresh" our program...
In the meantime, we will continue to root for our Sun Devils under Bobby Hurley and hope to find some solace after the season when Rossini will hire a new coach to lead our BB program...
Speaking of coffee, that's what I'm heading for after I finish this post...fresh brewed coffee and a donut...
I wonder what Rossini has in mind when he talks renovation of DFA..??
Just cosmetic stuff or something more substantial that will make our Sun Devil eyes pop out in a WOW glance of amazement..??
And, more importantly, help our new coach to Activate Sun Devil Basketball from who cares to we care...
Wouldn't that make all of us happy...
