All of this talk about whether the PAC or ACC will survive and then what comes next makes little sense. Because at some point, and it may already e happening, conferences like the B1G and the SEC will start asking, "Why are we paying Indiana, Rutgers, Illinois, Vanderbilt, Missouri and Kentucky etc., full shares when they're perennial football doormats?"

College Football just needs to break away from the NCAA and create their own league based on the European "relegation" leagues for soccer. The money windfall for the top league, probably 35ish teams, would be massive, and that's just for football. Maybe relegate the bottom 5-10 teams in the Premier league and replace them with the top 5-10 teams in the Secondary league.

Then the schools can go back to the regional conference pairings for the rest of the NCAA sports, including men's basketball. I would think that conference Networks would then get some sort of minor deal with various carriers for the content, which would be added onto whatever each team is getting for their tier place in the football league.

USC and UCLA would come back as it's for the non-football sports. The PAC could add SDSU, BYU and Gonzaga for those non-football sports. Maybe CU goes back to the B12, but it wouldn't matter either way as we could always swap them for a Boise State or Fresno State. Schools like Rutgers, Maryland and WVU would probably join the ACC as the regional trips are much easier. OU and UT, along with A&M possibly, would be back in the B12 for the same reason. ND could stay with the ACC or finally join the B1G. Plus the B1G would really start to look at major basketball programs near them like Cinci, Xavier, Marquette, etc..

This takes care of the football revenue issue and protects historical/regional rivalries for all other sports. It would also reduce travel costs in a significant way and force schools to take football seriously so they can enter or stay in the "Premier" League every season.
