Tuesday's practice report from Cole Topham (@HamAnalysis), who observed both sides of the ball as the team practiced in the bubble.

Attendance
Defensive end Gharin Stansbury was dressed. The defensive end was held out all preseason due to injury. A good sign for Arizona State to finally get him worked back in.

Safety Alijah Gammage was not dressed and did a personal workout in the muscle beach alongside defensive back Alphonso Taylor and running back Deonce Elliott.

Cornerback Ro Torrence had a boot on his left leg and was supported by a crutch. Cornerback Ed Woods also had a boot on just like was reported last week.

Nose tackle Nesta Jade Silvera was dressed and continued to wear a brace on his left arm. He had a light day in practice.

Defensive back Jordan Clark practiced in both the skill and team periods. He played against Oklahoma State and did not appear to be limited today.

Drills
The offense jogged through a variety of route concepts all from a similar setup but changed roles based on the play call and cues given to them by the coaching staff. The group then scattered to their different position groups before the team stretch period.

The receivers predominantly worked on jailbreak screens. One receiver would hook around as the point man blocker, while the other would receive the pass and move to accelerate around the corner. Meanwhile, the tight ends practiced taking on edge rushers, then passing off their assignment and working to the second level to take on another block.

The running backs worked on evading downhill defenders in the form of a rolling ball, making decisive cuts and retaining their speed during their rush through the offensive line. Next, they worked on catching passes out of the backfield. Daniyel Ngata reeled in a well-tracked ball over the shoulder. Xazavian Valladay showcased his start-stop ability on a slip-screen that required patience to set up correctly.

Carter Brown made five of six kicks during the special teams period. He was perfect inside the 40-yard line on his first four kicks but missed his first 48-yard attempt. Brown rebounded and drilled the next attempt of the same distance from the opposite hash. Jace Feely took one kick from 40 yards and nailed it with plenty of leg to spare.

The seven-on-air session saw the receivers drill a number of timing routes with the quarterbacks. Quick hitches, Smash (outside hitch, slot fade) concepts, Dagger concepts (outside go, inside out route), corner fades, and quick stop routes that attacked the zones of the linebackers were the primary features. Charles Hall was used all over the field in this period. He saw his snaps increase last weekend against Oklahoma State.

The entire defense began with a walkthrough led by the coaching staff, as per usual. Timarcus Davis and Keon Markham assumed the outside corner spots with the two-deep struggling in the health department. Both cornerbacks were vocal in relaying adjustments and splits across the defense.

DJ Taylor remained at the first team nickel spot. Jordan Clark, who saw time in the nickel when Taylor went down during the Oklahoma State game, mostly played safety alongside Chris Edmonds. He replaced Kejuan Markham in the first team.

The receivers and defensive backs took part in one-on-ones to close out the media viewing window.

On the very first play, Elijhah Badger stacked Keon Markham on a go ball but Emory Jones overthrew him deep.

DJ Taylor broke up a pass intended for Cam Johnson, who was running a comeback from the slot. Johnson gained separation off his release, but Taylor’s athleticism kicked into gear. He recovered nicely and found the ball when Johnson moved to return to the pass.

Andre Johnson zoomed past Macen Williams on a sideline fade and extended for the over the shoulder ball, pressing it into his pads.

Zeek Freeman froze Isaiah Johnson on a nifty stutter-go, earning him separation on a long sideline ball.

Chad Johnson Jr. sold a vertical route well, then broke down to work back along the sideline. He high-pointed a tight spiral from Emory Jones and got both feet inbounds.

11-on-11
Our availability ended before the team-wide 11-on-11 session and we were unable to glimpse an accurate view of the two-deep.

As always, we will answer any questions you may have.
