I think we need to get to a foundational structure for NIL that is at least the following (for football):
$1,000/month NIL for players in their first year on scholarship at ASU
$2,000/month NIL for players in their second year on scholarship at ASU
$3,000/month NIL for players in their third year on scholarship at ASU
$4,000/month NIL for players in their fourth year on scholarship at ASU
$5,000/month NIL for players in their fifth year or more on scholarship at ASU
To estimate what that will cost in NIL payments each year, we can look at the 85 scholarship limit and assume that we'll probably have something like the following breakdown by year with ASU:
1st year: 30
2nd year: 25
3rd year: 15
4th year: 10
5th year: 5
So, do the math and you end up with a total NIL tab for football of $190,000/month or $2.28M per year for foundational football NIL.
Again, this would just be the minimum. You'd need to have additional funds to pay your starting QB, LT, other star players, etc. But the structure I laid out above should be enough to have some base level of stability in the program.
