Razorbacks Rare Fall Off Radar

That's the title of an article by Kent Smith of the All Hogs Fan Nation under a Sports Illustrated heading entitled "Arkansas Razorbacks BB has fallen off the map...

There is a lot to commiserate with, as a Sun Devil fan, in the article, as a really good coach is having all sorts of problems there, these days...

A critique of his team, even by him, almost matches our current Sun Devil BB performance this season...

He would even give his team an F this year in almost any statistical category and you can tell he doesn't like what BB has become in this portal and NIL world, although I doubt that NIL donations are an issue at the school...

As noted almost everywhere, this is a young man's game and coach Muss, at 60, isn't getting any younger...

Chip Kelly and many others have had it with all the constant turnover and having to show the love (money) to youngsters 24 hours a day...

But, that's the world we live in...

Go Dilly and Go Devils!!!

Thanks ASU Bball

Your performance makes me so proud and happy to watch you play. Loss after loss I just keep thinking, the only thing missing is me having season tickets and giving $1k a month to bball NIL. I just need to do that and this program will be in the elite 8 or maybe the final 4. Thank you CBH for having a system that works and is leading us towards a conference championship. Thank you players for being so unselfish and having great ball movement and lock down defense. I'm grateful for ASU Bball and pinch myself every game cuz it is like a dream watching this program. Thank you, Thank you!

Safety Josiah Cox enters the portal

Played in 10 games this past season so he cannot redshirt. I can only assume that he did not see a path to have a good chance being in the two deep, since Xavion Alford is now eligible, Shamari Simmons is a penciled in starter, Montana Warren is healthy and ASU added a transfer portal addition in Kamari Wilson (probably the biggest reason why he entered so late in the window).

Scouting Report: Colorado

“No doubt they’re an NCAA Tournament team, with what they’ve done, and what their record is right now.” A tall task awaits the Sun Devils in Boulder, facing a Buffs team that, despite January struggles is still one of the better squads in the league

Scheduled Visitors This Weekend

Ever since the early signing period in December was enacted, the traditional assigning period of the first Wednesday in February, which is this year February 7th, seemed like an afterthought. It's naturally a quieter recruiting period because teams make sure that they secure both the high school and junior college prospects as well as the transfer additions during the December signing period.

Nonetheless, if you are able to find some prospects who are still unsigned for one reason or another and can address your immediate needs, it's a good time to try and land those players.

In terms of a transfer portal visitors and one that naturally could address a major need at left tackle, former University of Washington offensive lineman Jalen Klemm who actually signed with Kansas State out of high school and played there for one year will be on campus. Klemm stands at 6-5 281 pounds and played seven games for the Huskies. And yes, if his last name sounds familiar, that is because he is the son of long-time coach and former NFL player Adrian Klemm, who coached with Kenny Dillingham at Oregon. Following the recruiting philosophy of players out of the portal by ASU, Klemm has three years of eligibility remaining and could fill that dire need at left tackle.

Moving on to 2024 prospects, tight end is another position of need to round out the recruiting class when you keep in mind that ASU will only have three tight ends practicing in the spring and the lone summer arrival Jayden Fortier is the question mark in terms of how healthy he will be after tearing his ACL in the state championship game last December. I thought initially that ASU might wait until the April portal window to add a tight end, and perhaps they still do so anyway, but at any event, the visitor they have coming in is Jewlyen Thomas. With a thin depth chart Arizona State is probably an attractive destination for him.

On the other side of the ball, Seattle O'Dea safety Kyan McDonald is the third visitor this weekend. If the high school name does sound familiar, yes, he was a teammate of ASU running back pledge Jason Brown. McDonald did visit Texas A&M Power Four schools in pursuit but did not land in any of those programs yet.

Sun Devil Science: An update on ASU Basketball’s 2023 transfer departures

ASU basketball endured a massive roster turnover and returned just three players from last year. In this edition of Sun Devil Science, Joe Healey evaluates how those outbound transfers are performing so far in the 2023-24 season

Sunday Walkabout

Mornin Mates...

Today's Topic = Where do we go from here ?

If happiness is built around enjoyment and satisfaction then what does that mean for those of us living in Sun Devil country..??

We've gone from having some "competitive traction" in basketball to now looking like something that is being sold at a swap meet for next to nothing...

Hurley's program is starting to look like what happened with our football program when the chickens came home to roost following the Herm years...

In this case, however, Ray extended Bobby's contract after last season, while giving Herm $4.4M to exit our football program, following the initiation of an NCAA investigation into recruiting rules violations...

It sure seems that Ray had a knack for almost always going in the wrong direction as our former AD, at least in my humble estimation...

And, that wrong direction has cost the Sun Devil athletic dept millions upon millions of dollars...

And, now apparently, Crow is considering an AD from Temple, who has already shown a knack for going in the wrong direction, with his first big hire at the school, that in football...

Instead of hiring a local legend from the area who was highly qualified, he chose to ignore him and hire a friend from his former school, the University at Texas...

Not only that, but the Temple president, who hired him, was forced to resign less than two years into his tenure there, for a variety of reasons, that included a vote of no confidence from the school's faculty...

So, the Temple AD sounds exactly like the type of guy that you would want to run the ASU athletic dept, right..??

You can bet that AU will doing no such thing while they search for a new AD without using a "search firm" to help them find the right person to lead their athletic dept...

I'm only bringing this up because one of the first things our new AD is going to have to do is figure out what to do with our men's BB program, that is sinking in the PAC standings faster than a lead canon ball would sink in the Tempe Town Lake...

And, if finding a replacement for Bobby is the answer, what sort of replacement will we replace him with..??

Another sort of stereotypical ASU so-so type coach or someone who might have a bit of a checkered past but sure knows how to win BB games..??

I feel for the players who have to feel very bad right now but not for our coach who hasn't been able to turn our BB fortunes around despite having about a decade to do so, already...

I don't know if being a "players coach" has anything to do with it but, even if he feels their pain, he isn't going to be able to lessen it during the rest of the season, IMHO...

It's a sad state of affairs but pretty typical of the way things have turned out repeatedly under Ray and by extension, president Crow, who hired him...

At least there appears to be a glimmer of hope with our down and out football program under Dilly, who Ray had nothing to do with hiring, as I understand it...

Maybe we'll get some good recruiting news, once again, after this weekend...:)

Well, its February and that means spring isn't too far away and spring is where hope resides, right...;)

G'day Mates and Go Devils!!!

In my own words: Terrell Kim

"Being around other Poly players helps because we connect on a whole different level. We are cut from the same cloth." Freshman OL Terrell Kim felt the family environment even prior to his ASU commitment, and it's a sentiment that remains during his first semester in Tempe

Football Injury update (nothing bad)

We mentioned right before the Territorial Cup about the back injury to wide receiver Elijhah Badger, an injury that was serious enough to even him possibly having surgery. And this is why I told you guys before the December portal even opened that Badger wasn’t in danger of entering the portal due to that injury, and no one should have even speculated whether he was or wasn’t going to declare for the NFL draft. There was zero chance of that happening.

A person close to Badger told me that Badger didn’t have surgery because that would elongate the rehab process and is rehabbing now with limited participation in winter workouts. Furthermore, he will be limited in spring practice even though it does start later than usual in the last week of March. Now, even though Badger wasn’t a player who was in danger of entering the portal, needless to say his physical condition as it is would preclude him anyway from seriously entertaining that thought.

I fully expect him to practice with no limitations in fall camp.

STORY: Sun Devils drop fourth in row, swept by Bay Area schools in Tempe

“We weren’t connected as a team, and the first half it was five individuals out there playing. You gotta be on the same page." Traits that plagued ASU previously came back to haunt the Sun Devils in a loss to Cal
