OT- Harbaugh

Just rumors of course but the more you think about it the more real this could be.

Could Jim Harbaugh leave Michigan after two years and become the Rams new coach?

Think about it....LA finally gets a football team after 22 years. They're going to be moving into a gazillion dollar state of the art facility within a few years. They have a good young nucleus. They have a rabid fan base that's happy to have the NFL back in town. What's the one big thing they were missing? A coach. Harbaugh's proven he can win in the NFL. The Rams ownership group is night and day compared to the 49ers (which let's face it...was the reason he really left)

Yes some may say "oh but he's coached his alma matter back to national prominence." Whoopty-doo though. The NFL always will be the biggest stage and I'm sure he wants to win a Super Bowl. Wouldn't hurt to play in the same division as your hated former employer too. I think this might have teeth.

Thoughts?

Gonzalez Earns AP All-America First Team Honors

TEMPE, Ariz. –Arizona State place-kicker Zane Gonzalez continued his quest to become a unanimous All-American Monday morning as he claimed First Team honors from the Associated Press bringing his tally of First Team All-America recognitions to six.

Gonzalez, a senior from Deer Park, Texas, claimed won the 2016 Lou Groza Award after making an FBS-leading 14 field goals from at least 40 yards out this past season. He was a remarkable 7-for-9 on attempts from 50 yards or more, a mark that represents the second-most ever from long distance in an FBS season, including the longest field goal of the year, a 59 yarder that gave him the all-time record for career points by a kicker.

Gonzalez finished his illustrious four-year career at ASU as the all-time FBS leader in field goals made (96) and points by a kicker (494). His 23 made field goals out of 25 attempts in the 2016 season led the Pac-12 in both makes and percentage.

Gonzalez became the first ASU player to earn Associated Press All-America First Team recognition since defensive tackle Will Sutton in the 2012 season. Gonzalez also became the first specialist in ASU history to receive first team AP honors.

Gonzalez’s six All-America First Team honors is the most for an ASU player since Terrell Suggs claimed 10 First Team nods en route to becoming ASU’s first unanimous All-American in 2002.

Post-Visit Feedback

We are working on getting interviews with the visitors but here is what I've heard.

Things have went very well this weekend with Evan Fields and Ronald Rudd. I would keep an eye on those two.

Good recruiting visit for Gary Johnson too, although perhaps less bullish than Fields and Rudd, but still very encouraging.

Getting mixed signals on Justin Broiles. Interesting tweets on the one hand, but also seemingly sticking with his Oklahoma commitment. Maybe just a good poker face guy.

Haven't received feedback yet on Todd Harris and Jhavonte Dean but those are two where I feel the process is very far from over anyway.

All afternoon and this evening we are hoping to bring you interviews with all the visitors.

Latest on Alex Perry and ASU

As you may know by now, Alex Perry was “burned” by one of the Colorado reporters earlier this year who misquoted Perry saying that he was committed to the Buffaloes. This is why the defensive back hasn’t been granting any interviews. Perry by nature is also a low key guy so that plays into this too.

I was, however, fortunate that his father. Dr. Archie Perry, took the time to talk to me this morning after performing surgeries all night no less, about that in-home visit and the recruiting process in general.

“Del came over to practice and then came to our house and we talked,” Dr. Perry said. “He was very candid about the personnel and coaching and was very informative about the season. I gave him my impression of the season and he gave me his impression and his thoughts about next year. Del is a good guy and this was a good conversation.

“Honestly we don’t have to have Del sell us on ASU. From my perspective, it’s multi-factorial aside from football, when you decide which school to go to. Football is one piece of the puzzle but in terms of football, it’s a matter of getting on the field. We’re not convinced that going somewhere where you won’t see the field early is the best case scenario. With the situation at Arizona State and Alex’s skill set he has a good chance getting on the field early.”

At this time the timetable for the defensive back’s decision is unclear. The defensive back’s focus right now is the Nevada state title game versus Liberty on Saturday. Two schools that are likely candidates for official visits are ASU and Colorado.

“We haven’t set up any official visits,” Dr. Perry stated, “and we haven’t taken any official visits to date. There have been other schools that have resurfaced and ultimately I will leave it up to Alex if he wants those to be known. We’ll address all of that after the dust settles from the state championship game.”

My take is that the opportunity to play his older brother Armand trumps all other schools competing for his services and that ASU for a while as well as we speak right now is still in a good, if not an excellent position to land Alex Perry.

Don’t be surprised if Perry’s recruiting process continues to be a very quiet one, again which is just a reflection of his personality and certainly, cannot be interpreted as bad news for ASU. He could commit this month or next and take no official visits to any other schools. He could take all five official visits and regardless of where ASU is slotted in those visits, they still could be the school of choice.

Sunday Walkabout

Mornin Mates...

Today's Topic = 2017 Challenges

Can Graham and his staff come up with a defensive philosophy and scheme that won't be as easily exploited by opponents as it has been the past couple of years..??

Can Graham and his staff add enough defensive talent this recruiting cycle to bolster the DL so they can put enough pressure on opposing QBs by themselves without us having to throw the kitchen blitzing sink at them in games..??

Can Graham and his staff build enough LB depth so that if they sustain an injury like they did this year to Christian Sam that we don't move backwards several steps there..??

Can the head honcho and his staff rebuild the secondary so that it isn't made up of WRs masquerading as DBs and other suspicious suspects drawn from the hybrid hopefuls who can't seem to find a home at any position much less the secondary..??

Can Graham find a wonderful replacement for Jay Norvell who is a proven winner or will he roll the dice on someone he knows from days past, in his old network of friends, like his present DC..??

Can the Devils get a better recruiting presence going in the all important So-Cal recruiting grounds than they have shown since Erickson was fired..??

Can the Devils sell enough season tickets next year to put any sort of happy face on our slide back into football mediocrity ..??

Can the Devils finish the SDS renovation sometime before we break the 100,000 student level at the school..??

Can Ray Anderson get any of those 100,000 students to attend both football and basketball games so our stadiums and arenas don't look deserted a good portion of the time..??

Can anybody get the PAC 12 to start fall football games in Oct and November before midnight eastern time..??

Will hockey surpass men's basketball in importance at the school..??

Does anybody care about any of this..??

There are lots of questions for the upcoming new year but not a lot of answers as far as I can tell..

What say all of you..??

G'day Mates and Go Devils!!!

Charlie Strong

I'm hearing that he got Kiffin'd on the tarmac in Kansas today. I've often publicly said that CTG should get him to be our defensive coordinator. The guy had some incredible defenses while he was at Louisville and even some of his Texas ones weren't too bad. The guy also has some inroads with some recruiting gold mines in Texas.

Do you think Ray Anderson will insist CTG go after him? I'd be a huge fan of this honestly.

2017 Pitchfork Prospects Page

Just like last year we created a one-stop shop concerning ASU's recruiting class where will post all the updates concerning the 2017 group.

I just published the 2017 Pitchfork Prospects Page with a list of all commits and the viable prospects at each position.

I will pin this thread in a few days after folks had a have to review it. As always please post any questions you have about this class on this thread.
