Who are your 3 that stood out last night?

For me it was as follows:
1. N'Keal Harry - I did not expect him to make the impact he did. This young man flashed on a major scale for his first collegiate game. That spin move tho....

2. Tim White - what more can you say about this guy. He just has IT.

3. Renell Wren - I was very impressed with his play. Plugging gaps and racking up TFLs. We got ourselves a heck of a player

Targeting penalty on Ball...

That was such a bullshit call! He made a g eat play on the ball. In my opinion, it's a players decision to play football, if you don't want to take the risk of getting hurt, simply don't play.

The NCAA is taking all the physicality out of football. I think eventually you will see flags on QBs and receivers. What a joke!!!

That player got hosed last night.

Just pisses me off!

Tuesday Practice Report 9-6

ATTIRE: Helmets and pads
LOCATION: Kajikawa Practice Fields
MEDIA AVAILABILITY: ~ 20 minutes (NO team sessions)
GUESTS: Scouts from the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills and Daaaaaa Chicago Bears were in attendance
OUT LAST WEEK: I saw Salamo Fiso, Laiu Moeakiola and Ami Latu working at practice. Fiso and Latu were suspended vs NAU, while Moeakiola was held out with a hamstring issue.

EN VERDE (No-contact): OL Marshal Nathe, DB James Johnson
TOWELS AND SUNSCREEN (Limited): TE Grant Martinez, LS Mitch Fraboni, OL Tyson Rising and LB Christian Sam. Sam was injured on an unsportsmanlike play in the first quarter vs. NAU, and had a light wrap on his right ankle at practice. He did not participate in any drills during media availability.

BALL SECURITY

The team, as always, worked through ball security drills. The DBs and DEVILs worked together, which I found interesting, working on punching the ball out.

John Simon, as always, was quite vocal when ball carriers were going through the gauntlet.

I think that's all I have for today. As always, wish I had more, but if you have any questions feel free to leave them here below.

Arizona State in the Top 5 for 2017 4-star SF Kimani Lawrence

2017 4-star SF Kimani Lawrence released his Top 5 and Arizona State made the cut. It says on his profile that he is scheduled to visit the ASU campus later this month and he does have an offer, so I'd imagine the Sun Devils are in good position to land him. But, I've only been following his recruitment from the Cal side, so I can't really speak to his relationship with Bobby Hurley and Co.

Pac-12 Road Trips

What is your favorite conference city to visit that you have been to? Take in all factors.......stadium setting, time of year the game was played, friends or family who live there, etc.....

As for me while I have never been to an ASU road game I think Palo Alto is really cool and enjoyed my trip there. Los Angeles doesn't necessarily appeal to me but I certainly would like to see the Coliseum and the Rose Bowl.

Suspended Players

Graham said that Ami Latu will be back next week, but was non-committal on Salamo Fiso. I'm getting the vibe that Fiso could very well be out for the next week or two. With Christian Sam suffering an ankle sprain and having his foot placed in a boot, and Marcus Ball having to miss the first half of Texas Tech game because of his targeting penalty, you suddenly have a very thin linebacker corps next week.

Jay Jay Wilson, much like Fiso could miss more than one game, although perhaps not hurting the tight end group as much as Fiso's absence will hurt the linebacker unit.

BigE has a great thread discussing probabilities of winning each game, etc. After reading that you can decided on a likely record and cast your vote here. That way we can see what the board consensus is, if any, when all is said and done.

Punt team

The 2nd punt of the night by Haack was very close to being blocked. The snap was perfect (although I am not certain of the velocity and how John's compares to Fraboni's). I did not watch the blocking but obviously something was not right

Then the next punt with 7:40 left in the 1st half resulted in Haack taking off around left end to try to avoid the rush and was just short of a 1st down.

While the snap was not perfect on this one, it was not terrible. Haack had to jump slightly (maybe 14" and very slightly to his right ) and did not have to fully extend his arms (hands were just above his helmet with elbows bent when he caught the ball). I would bet that more than 70% of the time that snap would result in a fully timed and extended leg punt. I would also bet that 95% of the time that snap would result in at least a pooch punt where the punter felt the need to shorten his leg motion fearing getting blocked.

The bigger issue here was the lack of blocking. The replay showed clearly that either we've got a mess to clean up or some planned fake was poorly executed

The front line from left to right is 82(Harvey), 17(Rhodes), 64(Riley John), 7 (Ballage) and 30(Tautalatasi) with 2 gunners 16 (Chandler) and another that I did not see

The next line (closer to the punter) is 80(Epps), 22(Ralston) and 43 (Mendoza)

I have reviewed it numerous times and the blocking is so odd and bad that it is hard to imagine that it wasn't some type of a designed run.....if not, WOW!!!!!! The separation between Tautalatsi and Ballage is TWICE the separation between Rhodes and Harvey on the opposite side of the center.
Thus a defender is left in a sprinter's stance between Tautalatasi and Ballage who are each staring at a man directly in front of them.

So immediately Ballage takes the man in front of him, while Tautalatasi basically dives directly to his left to try to get some finger on the unblocked man (#25)shooting the gap

Meanwhile our entire 2nd row of Epps/Ralston/Mendoza crash left and the rusher (#31) shooting the gap between John and Rhodes is left unblocked with a straight (and even shorter) route directly to Haack

I think both of them would have blocked the punt if he didn't tuck and run........and on 4th and 8 with 7:50 left in the half, up 7-3 at your own 40 yard line it seems like a risky time/down/distance/field location to try a fake

To Haack's credit, he made an athletic move just to keep from being tackled 15 yards behind the LOS

UGLY PLAY (AND NOT ONE THAT I WOULD PUT TOO MUCH BLAME ON JOHN FOR.....AFTER HE PERFROMED WELL THE REST OF THE NIGHT)
