“You just don't know when things will click all the time. Working with the guys all summer into the fall, I saw the potential of what they could do.” All ASU has done in the last few games is justify the preseason buzz; a win over GCU didn't change that sentiment

that is a big game in a season full of them it is nice to see us playing better I'm just going to enjoy the wins as we go
Scheduling tough games is one thing, but winning in them is another, and ASU, for the most part, is doing this. Can't go through the motions through the next two games against St. Thoma and Cal Poly.

i think i watched maybe 2 games last yr, didnt go to any........watched most of the 2nd half last night, and that game was as well as I have seen this team play and coached other than a small handful of games over last 6-7 yrs.......the Kansas games, etc

Mason played great in 2nd half, did a nice Pt Guard job of trying to get the ball to guys where they were comfortable.........had some good penetration, passes, etc..........JQ is as advertised, made an unbelieve able block, athleticism off the charts.........Jihad a seasoned vet who knows the game, how to play it.......Sanon looks like a shooter/scorer, still a ways to go but should be solid

But the Biggest thing that impressed me was team play, some actual SCREEN & ROLLS, solid effort on D, Minimal dribbling and then casting a long 3 jack, most of 3 pt shots i saw were off of drive and dish out to open shooter.......and pretty solid rebounding

Gr Canyon well coached, decent talent, so to my eyes a good W for BH and the Boys.......BACK ON the bandwagon ;)

The one comment I got from a gonzaga buddy after that game was "Asu is better than I expected, and they'll be even better if they stop so much iso and just throwing up shots"
Loved what I saw in the second half wrt offensive sets and assists, ball movement, and good shots. Hopefully we can continue to see this!

Keep this up and the Hurley critics will need to go into hibernation. 😳

I'd love to! Never stopped hoping he'd turn it around...just lost faith that he was able to do so.
He's got the players this year, no excuses...I'd love to see Hurley have this team playing like a team and make a nice tourney run!

You might be right if the Devils keep hitting FGs at a 54% rate, 3 pt shots at a 44% rate and FT at 86% (18-21)...:)

Kansas, Houston, Iowa St, Baylor and AU are all shooting FGs at about 50% thus far...

Only Houston, of above conference favorites, is shooting better at 48% of 3 pt shots...

And, all of the favorites listed above are not even close to 86% from the FT line...

Keep it up Devils and who knows what will happen down the road...

Go Devils!!!

So how did this team go from averaging 51 points against Duke (47) & Idaho State (55) to averaging 83 points against Santa Clara (81), Gonzaga (80) and GCU (87)?

Ball movement with extra passes to get better shots plus the emergence of Alston Mason...He just seems very comfortable out there managing the game, distributing the ball, hitting his long-range shots, driving & finishing, and sinking his FTs. He has been the true catalyst, from my perspective.

I should ask our astute audience on this board, any other theories regarding the 30+ point jump in offensive production over the last 3 games?

The offense just looks revamped with much better structure, diversity, shot selection and proficiency.

I have not watched a game yet but from what you describe about Mason, he sounds like a quality PG. In my mind, a PG is to bball what a QB is to football. When you have a good one, they make the team look real good and without one, they look real bad. With BH, he has no true offensive system so he needs a quality PG who knows how to make a system of sorts in order to play the game as a PG should play it, which is very much in line with what you described. So my theory is Mason knows how to play PG and has created a system of sorts to help all his teammates excel.

I look forward to reading posts from others who are tuned in to read their theory.

Who knows but my hope is team with a lot of new players getting more comfortable w each other, and Bobby “hopefully” installing a true scheme w pick and rolls, and making them run it… Mason looks the part to me, and has been a decade since we saw them move the ball around as well as last night

Small sample size and all, Mason is the best point guard at ASU since Remy Martin

We were dead last last year in the Pac 12 in 3PT%, this year we are sitting 9th and nearly 7% better. Most importantly, we 11th in the Pac 12 last year by .5% in FT% and this year we are sitting in 4th in the Big 12 11% better. Maybe Hurley has changed some things up during the summer and fall to prep for the season when it came to shooting drills, but I think it's simply this team has much better talent than in years past.

I was actually impressed watching this game. I'll admit after the slaughter that ASU took for the Duke game, I lost hope. I felt like GCU was going to just win. ASU looked really good playing overall. I was really surprised!! Threes were being made and some rejections (blocked shots) were made. I was shocked!! It didn't look like the ASU basketball team Im use to seeing. I hope they continue to grow and play well. Just once though I would like to see ASU win a Conference championship before I die. I know it most likely won't happen because of NIL blah blah blah.....just wishful thinking is all.

Well I didn’t even watch the duke game so no clue how we were so bad could only stand a half of the Idaho State game and had to turn it off. Now I think a big part of this team O in those games was ran through Miller I could be wrong but that is something Bobby would do . The last 3 games we ran are O through mason for the most part miller has become a piece not the main man and in that roll he and the team are better. I’m also seeing plays ran in the last 3 games and a lot of iso ball vs ISU there are more issues or reasons if you will but this is a good team how good we will see
