Mornin Mates...
Today's Topic = Disjointed
That's the way one of the announcers described the Sun Devil basketball effort yesterday against Cincy in another lost game in the Big-12 under Bobby...
It seems that is a good way for me to describe Bobby's tenure at ASU, too...
Whereby, the only real consistency of his program is its inconsistency...
He's had four winning seasons, with some NCAA tournament appearances, but also had five losing seasons and is, maybe, headed for a sixth losing season in this inaugural season in the tough Big-12 conference...
Oftentimes, his teams appear unorganized, sloppy, and inept more often or as often, than they look like a well organized and cohesive unit that wins in a well played way...
And, to make things worse, the Big-12 is a much more difficult and physical conference than the good, old PAC, where you better have several JQ type of players on your team, if you hope to compete and beat a majority of teams in the Big-12...
JQ is the real deal but isn't good enough to carry the team on his shoulders all by himself, especially on a Hurley coached team that lacks focus and discipline a lot of times during games, etc...
So, my question for all of you today is this...has Bobby had a fair chance over ten years at ASU to make a case for an extension of his contract..??
Is there anyone out there that thinks that he hasn't had a fair chance with which to succeed at ASU..??
For instance, the basketball arena isn't a Taj Mahal type facility and there does not appear to be an obsessive fan base that supports the Devils like what happens in some other programs around the country...
I bring the fan base issue up as we look at what has happened with our football program under Dilly, where his program has certainly connected with the football fan base, as evidenced by the growth in season football tickets and donations to the Sun Angel Collective, etc, etc, etc...
He's made a terrific impact on the fan base that he has surprised the heck out of since being picked last in the Big-12, to not only succeed in his quest to improve the Devils football fortunes but to win the Big-12 championship, etc...
It might seem unfair to compare what Dilly has already done at ASU in two years to what BH hasn't done at the school in ten years but it is what it is, right..??
The ASU football fan base has a lot of PRIDE these days, which is in stark contrast to what is happening with our BB program under Bobby or am I wrong about that..??
So, again, that's the question for the day...has Bobby had a fair chance at ASU with which to succeed and, relatedly, is there anything he can do in the remainder of our season that might change any fans minds about what needs to happen next, which is making a coaching change at the end of the season, IMHO...
G'day Mates and Go Devils!!!
