Former ASU OC Zak Hill resigns as head football coach at Scottsdale Saguaro

He will be an administrator at American Leadership Academy Gilbert North and part of the athletic director's duties. He will also help out Ty Detmer, who left ALA Queen Creek as head football coach to lead the ALA Gilbert North football program.

Hill cites proximity to his home as the reason for this, but there's no doubt that he will receive a nice bump in salary too. Suffice to say it that the chances of him getting a show clause that will delay his return to college coaching are high, so he might as well enjoy a higher salary than he was in the meantime.

Scouting Report: USC

In its quest to build positive momentum for the Pac-12 Tournament, ASU meets a USC squad that has won eight of their last 11 meetings with the Sun Devils. Yet, it's also a Trojan squad that has been very underwhelming this season

Sunday Walkabout

Mornin Mates...

Today's Topic = Sun Devil Version of March Madness

Basically, as far as I can tell, it means going back to bed to get some more rest while others look forward to the real March Madness...

As we all know, our men's BB team is now in 8th place in the PAC (and fading fast) and may catch the ladies BB team that is in 11th place in the PAC, also with a couple of away games remaining...

Thankfully, we have one football player that was invited to the NFL combine in Ro Torrence...:)

We all know that one is better than zero but it's not much to hang our Sun Devil hats on this meaningless March, once again, is it..??

Meanwhile, our baseball team is exhibiting the same trend we've seen in past Sun Devil baseball seasons...:(

It has a bullpen that gives up more runs per game than any other teams except NAU that does not have a Lumberjack baseball program...

The Jacks decided long ago to give up on baseball along with wrestling, swimming and a host of other men's sports that wasn't exciting anyone in Flagstaff...

However, disc golf and logging competitions have replaced those sports at the school and have found a following among some students and fans at the university...

Some of us are looking forward to spring football in the hopes that Dilly can turn around our once competitive Sun Devil football program...

Our friend, Jon Wilner thinks that it will take another year for Dilly to wake up the "sleeping giant" as he figures we will only be good for about 14th place in the 16 team Big 12 conference next season...

Of the Four Corner schools moving to the Big 12, he picks the Utes to win the conference, with AU finishing 4th and Colorado finishing 7th, and with our Devils tabbed for 14th, sandwiched between #13 BYU and #15 Baylor...

Perhaps, we should have stuck with the PAC where Wazzu will face Portland St, Texas Tech, San Jose St, Hawaii, Utah St and Wyoming at home, while visiting Wash, Boise St, Fresno St, San Diego St, New Mexico and Oregon St...

If ASU had that schedule, I would think we could win at least 6 games to become bowl eligible...

And, as a bonus, the new PAC commissioner has decided to keep the PAC-Two Network in place for this next year...

So, my question for the day is this...it there any hope for our dire men's BB program moving forward..??

Can Bobby keep this team intact and build on a well regarded recruiting class and, even if he does, will that improve things to any real degree, like having us get excited about March Madness or not at the end of next season..??

Even if he had a $5M NIL bank account would that change much of anything with his program..??

We've probably already beat that subject to death so I'm just going to go back to bed and sleep through March Madness, which seems to be the most sensible thing to do these days as a Sun Devil fan...

Hibernation until about May seems like a perfectly reasonable response to the current Sun Devil death spiral produced by Michael Crow and directed by Ray Anderson...

BTW, please wake me up if the NCAA Notice of Allegations arrive before May...

At least the sun came up again this fine March morning so there's that to find some comfort in as a Sun Devil fan...;)

Hope you all have a great week and make sure to get plenty of rest this March...:)

G'day Mates and Go Devils!!!

New Speak of the Devils Podcast: 1-on-1 with ASU OT Emmit Bohle

It’s been a long road for Emmit Bohle. From a small South Dakota town to 9-man football to Division II to the Sun Devil starting lineup, Emmit’s journey has been one defined by perseverance. That was put to the test early last season. After earning the starting right tackle job, he suffered a serious and season-ending leg injury in the season’s second game. It was a long road to recovery, but with the support of the program, he applied and received another season of eligibility, and now healthy, is aiming to be a force for the Sun Devils in the trenches this fall.

On this episode, Emmit and I discuss his early days playing 9-man ball, how he went from a 230-pound high school tight end to a Power 5 starting tackle, the pros and cons of being 6′7″, what he learned about himself going through the recovery process, the 2024 Sun Devil line, and more.

STORY: Washington OL transfer Jalen Klemm commits to ASU

"I had friends there, and they were really high on Coach Dillingham and the culture that he had created. That made me feel very comfortable." Washington OL Jalen Klemm took just one visit that checked all of the boxes and led to a Sun Devil pledge

In my own words: Ramar Williams

"I want to see this valley rise and support ASU. I know Coach Dillingham is trying to build a good football program locally." Local Mesa defensive lineman Ramar Williams is ready to repay the trust the hometown team has placed in him

STORY: Pitching woes return for ASU in Sunday loss to Texas A&M

“With a young team and a young pitching staff, the experience they got from this is invaluable. But we got to figure out ways to win these games." Aggies racked up 10 runs in the first three innings, handing the Sun Devils a third consecutive loss in the Kubota Baseball Series

New Speak of the Devils Podcast: 1-on-1 with RB DeCarlos Brooks

There’s no place like home...but that doesn’t mean the homecoming will go well. DeCarlos Brooks returned to the Valley after a few years at Cal, and when he was on the field for the Sun Devils, he produced, including a three-touchdown game to power the win over Washington State. Unfortunately, injuries plagued him throughout the season, and he could never get fully on track. Now healthy, DeCarlos is looking to cap his career with the title of hometown hero.

On this episode, DeCarlos and I discuss his journey from Chandler to the Pac-12 North and back to Arizona, the influence of Shaun Aguano, his favorite wings in the Valley, what he thinks his rating in the new college football video game should be, and much more.

STORY: Devils’ bullpen lets go of late lead in loss to TCU

In a reversal of roles from Friday, ASU's firepower at the plate was on full display late in the contest, but its pitchers faltered down the stretch, allowing No. 5 TCU to come back and beat the Sun Devils 11-9

STORY: Texas A&M pitching silences Sun Devils in Friday’s defeat

“They kept us off balance. Two hits on our end, both by a freshman, that’s not really acceptable. We’re way better than two hits.” Even allowing just four hits to No. 7 Texas A&M couldn’t be complemented by the normally explosive ASU offense in Arlington, Tex.

New Month, New Policy

OK, maybe not a "new" policy, but I'd really appreciate it if evyone lowered the falmes in their postings. I'm not saying one person is more guilty than the others in personal attacks, but if we as a community all stay away from those attacks, then we don't have to worry about who started which "message board fight."

Crticize the post, without criticizing the person who posted it.

Thank you for your cooperation, and enjoy the weekend!
