STORY: ‘Cats run wild, hold off ASU in home season finale

"In my nine years here, this was the best Arizona team that I’ve faced. They deserve the credit for outplaying us in this game.” ASU showed more fight on Wednesday night than they did in Tucson ten days ago but was still overwhelmed by the Wildcats in defeat

President Crow at a recent ABOR meeting told the board that ASU is getting much more efficient in awarding degrees and continuing to grow its student body...

Crow said that when he started at ASU, each graduate cost the state $42,000 while that number now is $11,000 and that ASU was in good financial shape but there are still many challenges that come up like unforeseen expenses, etc...

He's proud of the fact that ASU will have a medical school in 2026 to go along with the new med school at NAU and a compliment to AU's med school that will double its med grads by then, too...

It's all part of the Regents "Healthy Tomorrow" plan to increase the state's healthcare workforce and lead to better access to healthcare by Arizona's population...

Meanwhile, down in Tucson, there is a lot of sentiment concerning Robbins primary focus on athletics and how detrimental its been to AU's main mission...

Michael Chihak, a retired newsman, recently wrote an opinion piece in the Daily Star about how the focus by Robbins on AU athletics needs to end...

He points out that many positions at AU are going unfulfilled while the Cats just hired an AD for over a million dollars and just hired a new football coach for millions who won only 41% of his games at his prior school...

Additionally, BB coach Tommy Lloyd just got a 28% raise while there is a campus wide need to reduce spending by 5% to 15% with layoffs likely, too...

"His deference to athletics and defenestration of academics has brought on bewilderment and anger from faculty and staff"...(my paraphrasing)

He also asks where the athletic boosters heads are when they continue to give to athletics who are already overcompensated (coaches, etc) for what they do...

He also says that the ABOR are "spineless" since they don't hold Robbins accountable, etc...

On and on he goes in his critique of president Robbins misguided focus of AU athletics in his opinion...

I'm glad ASU apparently isn't in financial trouble but we aren't exactly tearing it up in our Big 3 sports, either, under Crow...

STORY: Brycen Long still sidelined as he recovers from a December seizure

“I can see what’s going on out there, and I feel like I can help. It’s frustrating, but I’m just focused on getting healthier.” Brycen Long was looking forward to coming home and playing for ASU, but his season was cut short due to a seizure he suffered. The flashes he showcased in limited playing time motivate this lifelong Sun Devil fan to suit for the team next year

Sunday Walkabout

Mornin Mates...

Today's Topic = Has Anything Changed ?

Besides the morning coffee tasting better, after a good night's sleep, since our Devils beat Wazzu soundly last night, to even their record at 14-14...

We are still in the bottom half of the PAC standings in 7th place with an 8-9 record...

The coffee is also tasting better this morning in Tucson where our win over the Cougars put the Cats back in first place in the conference...

They couldn't beat Wazzu in McKale on Thursday night but I seriously doubt that their team is quaking in their BB shoes this morning having to face the Devils on Wednesday in Tempe...

They might not beat the Devils by 45 points, like they did in the Old Pueblo a few days ago, but I doubt that they "Fear The Fork" all that much with their upcoming game against us on Wednesday night...

Of course, if we, once again, make about 50% of our FG attempts and make 43% of our three point attempts and shoot 82% from the FT line, like we did against Wazzu, then we might have a chance...

The Cats will be playing for a conference championship in the next couple of weeks while our Devils will be playing for a winning record at the same time...

The Cats will be one of the two PAC teams invited to March Madness, along with Wazzu, from a very weak PAC conference, while we try to break even in Bobby's ninth year on the job...

With the win last night, he has gotten some of his fans to insist that if he had the right amount of NIL money, with which to tap, things would be different for his BB program...

However, most boosters, as far as I can tell, have lost faith in Bobby and will not pony up a lot of money to see him still finish poorly in the PAC each year, even if he had better players...

That's the rub these days concerning our BB program and I doubt that it will change in the next couple of weeks unless, somehow, the Devils win the PAC tournament in Las Vegas next month...

And, even then, it might not happen...:(

Turning to baseball, our team ERA is close to 9.00, thus far, which seems to be a trend with our baseball program no matter who is coaching it these days...

Which puts a lot of pressure on our offense to score a great many runs a game in order to win...

Maybe Willie and his pitching coach might figure things out but maybe not based on our recurrent pitching woes that just keep happening no matter who is our coach, it seems...

I haven't lost faith in Willie but sure hope that he can figure some things out so we can win a lot of games with an offense that can score plenty of runs in most games...

Well, I'm going to enjoy the day following our great win last night against Wazzu and not even think about the Cats, either today or tomorrow, or whether we might end up with a winning record or not...

I hope that you all do the same...:)

G'day Mates and Go Devils!!!

STORY: Compton, Carlon clutch in ASU’s Sunday 10-8 win
