OT: Colorado Football Culture

I'm really REALLY not a fan of what's going on there so I'll try just to present the information for discussion.

But man...what a bad look to have your incredibly visible QB publicly criticizing a (now former) teammate like this, in addition to the quotes about Sanders on top of the turnstile transfer portal approach he's taken. There seems to be some major toxicity going on with that program's culture.

I'm all for positive father/son relationships, but it really seems like it's a team within a team with Sanders and his kids vs. everybody.

ASU "Behind the Scenes" type show starring Bobby Hurley and his Sun Devil BB team

I could be wrong about all this, but from what I've been able to gather, I think this is what all the hub-bub is about when using Bobby's Name, Image, Likeness to promote his Sun Devil basketball team that's been in the news recently...

Would you or anyone else watch a series that features a "behind the scenes" (ala HBO Hard Knocks type series) look at a major basketball program that is coached by an iconic man, given the name and family stature, (in the business of basketball), that is on the "brink" (salvation or termination) while entering the Big 12 basketball conference..??

I, for one, would be watching it, especially as a longtime Sun Devil fan...:cool:

My related NIL question would be this...is this a way to get his players paid for starring/appearing in this docu-series, since it would involve their NIL as participants in the show..??

Or would they be doing commercials during breaks that would get them paid or would it be both or something like that..??

On a somewhat related matter, there is a home heating and cooling commercial down here that stars former AU center - Oumar Ballo - that plays up the idea of his knowing about transferring, which I suppose is meant to ask the audience to consider transferring to this particular heating and cooling company, since Ballo is recommending it...

I don't know how much Ballo is making at AU using his Cats NIL identity but it's rumored that he will get $1.2M from Indiana when he transfers there for next season...

But, he has an extensive resume to back up that sort of NIL pay-for-play deal, I would think...:cool:

So, if I'm not too far off-base with my speculations regarding a proposed Bobby Hurley "Hard Knocks" type show, would that get you excited, especially if it helps pay some of the NIL type deals for some or all of his players..??

If true, it works for me...Go Bobby and Go Devils!!!

Inside baseball question for Hode.

One thing I was wondering is with all the content you guys have to put out do you see more people in the industry using AI? I find you can take a recorded conversation, get a transcript paste it into ChatGPT or another tool and get you about 70 to 80% of the way there. I don’t know if your industry is moving in that direction, but I guess if they can streamline processes for content development would probably show up in sports reporting as well. You don’t have to give me any secrets but just something I thought about for a while.

Sunday Walkabout

Mornin Mates...

Today's Topic = Draft-Less

Talent is destiny and those teams that had it, like Michigan and Texas, had a lot of players drafted into the NFL these past couple of days...

Unfortunately, our Sun Devils didn't have anyone drafted, which wasn't much of a surprise considering where we've been since Herm was fired...

However, four of his former Sun Devil players were drafted, including Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels, in the first round...

This is how each conference did in the NFL draft...

SEC = 59
PAC=43
Big-10 = 42
ACC = 41
Big-12 =31

This is how the PAC fared in the draft...

Wash = 10
Oregon = 8
USC = 7
Utah = 5
AU, Oregon St, Wazzu = 3
UCLA = 2

So, is there less NFL talent in the Big-12 than in other conferences, and, if so, is that a good thing for our Sun Devils moving forward..??

With Texas and Oklahoma leaving the Big-12 and accounting for about half of the conference draft selections this year, what does that mean for the new Four Corner schools that include ASU..??

Our Over/Under last year, in the PAC, was 4.5 and we only won 3 games, and our O/U this year is 4.5, but the Big 12 had a lot less NFL talent than the PAC, and when you subtract Texas and Oklahoma, the rest of the Big-12 only had 17 drafted...

So, I could be wrong about it, but I think this bodes well for our Sun Devils, under Dilly and his staff, moving forward into the Big-12...

At least, I sure hope so...:)

Relatedly, I didn't learn much from our Spring Game on Friday night other than we are bigger and deeper across both lines of scrimmage and have some good RBs and WRs...

QB will still be an issue moving forward but just about everything else looks to be improved and the same goes for the defense that is also bigger and deeper across the board...

We have also had a lot of recruits on campus this past week and I'm looking forward to see who of that group commits to being future Sun Devils...

On another Sun Devil note, the ASU baseball team has been hot lately and, if they win today, they will overtake the Trojans for 6th place in the PAC...fingers crossed that happens later today...

Finally, Bobby Hurley and his staff have been landing some promising players from the portal and he is being "innovative" in trying to leverage the Hurley brand through the NIL tunnel to donations...

So, a lot is going on these days within our Big 3 Sun Devil sports and, fingers crossed...good things will continue to happen for them...

Hope you all have a good week and remember that Mother's Day is just around the corner...;)

G'day Mates and Go Devils!!!

Huge Hoops Addition - UW-Milwaukee guard BJ Freeman

Things seems to be trending in ASU's favor for BJ Freeman, a transfer guard from Milwaukee who averaged 21.1 points last year, 6.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 42.2% shooting, and 35.5% from 3-point. 82.4% from the line. His announcement should be coming today.

Appears to be one of the better transfers out there who reportedly was attracting attention from Kentucky, Kansas, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Missouri, Villanova, Arkansas, Colorado, and Texas A&M.

EDIT - done deal to ASU

Ignore button

Just a reminder there is an ignore button available for folks whom don't want to.hear what some members say. Funny how I JUST mentioned certain types wanting to "cancel" others opinions, rather than just ignoring or moving on. That seems to be an issue these days as I so graphically pointed out only to have some employ that very mentality to what I said. Hysterical. Regardless, no one's HAS to read anyone's stuff. I've been on site since 2008 I believe. I know who's stuff I like, and who's I don't usually. If I don't I'm a big boy and ignore them rather than dry snitch and beg their removal. We're watching this very issue play out across college campuses, city streets and in the media. I don't attack unless attacked. That said I won't be silenced nor will I worry about every single person's feelings. He'll comedians are getting assaulted on stage now because of these snow flakes. People lose jobs. Lives are ruined. Nope. Be an adult, and ignore things you don't like. Don't like firearms? Don't buy one. Don't like a comedian? Don't go see them. Don't like me? Hit the ignore button.
Finally I am an ASU alum and donor. That means for those who struggle I DID "graduate from ASU". Have an amazing Sunday folks. Hug you family. They're not forever.
