STORY: The third side of the coin proves to be the difference in the win over UCF

Podcast: Sun Devils continue to roll; significant road matchup ahead

(19 Minutes)

ASU head coach Kenny Dillingham admitted that going into the game against UCF last week, he was wondering if the fine line between confidence and cockiness was breached. Looking back at that contest, even though it resulted in a Sun Devil 35- 31 win, it does seem that it was a valid concern.

But that sentiment is certainly being thrown out the window now, as here we are several days before the matchup on the road with No. 20 Kansas State, and ASU finds itself already as a touchdown-plus underdog.

What have we learned from the win over the Knights last Saturday and how does Arizona State match up against arguably its most challenging opponent to date this season? Analyst Cole Topham breaks down ASU's performance, detailing some of the strengths and weaknesses it has exhibited not only last Saturday but throughout the season and sizes up the Sun Devils' upcoming opponent.

STORY: Underdogs once again, Dillingham relishes in facing a challenging opponent

“We’re back in an underdog role; we’re back being counted out. If this isn’t a game that’s challenging and stacked against us, then I don’t know what it is." Guarding against overconfidence may have been an issue last week, but hardly the case now facing No. 20 Kansas State

Sunday Walkabout

Mornin Mates...

Today's Topic = Bitter Coffee

My Sun Devil coffee this fine desert morning tastes great but I think the coffee in Orlando probably tastes pretty crappy this AM, if I don't miss my guess...

For throughout the game the TV announcers kept wondering how ASU was still in a game that had them puzzled and perplexed...

And, I was there right with them, as I watched the Devils somehow win the contest, that the Knights seemed to dominate for most of the game...

They had 406 yards of total offense vs the Sun Devils 260 yards and only punted the ball once during the game...

They also ran for 177 yards compared to our 99 yards without Skattebo, although I doubt that he would have made much difference, if he had played, based on what I saw of their rush defense...

They pretty much dominated both lines of scrimmage, it seemed to me, and moved up and down the field at will...

But, they had a punt blocked that was returned for a TD by the Devils and threw an INT that resulted in another TD for the Devils before the half ended...

We get upset with our special teams but the Knights special team breakdowns were the difference in the game if you ask me...

Throw in nine Golden Knight penalties for 80 yards and some questionable coaching decisions by their coach and you can see why you don't want to be in his shoes this morning in Orlando...

Even being near Disney World isn't going to help get the taste of that bitter defeat from the mouths of their fans and boosters back in Florida...

And, Gus Malzahn has to be kicking himself for some of his coaching decisions during the game...

Even a hug from Goofy isn't going to aid the coffee he is drinking this morning, is it..??

But, enough about Gus Malzahn and his Golden Knights football team that featured one of the best backs in America in RJ Harvey...

They lost and we found an improbable way to win which is what good teams do, right..??

So, as a result of that improbable win, we find ourselves tied for third in the Big-12 with games remaining against K-State, that has the same record as we do, BYU that remains unbeaten after a last second win over rival Utah last night, and a road game against the Cats...

In conclusion, my mother always said that it's better to be lucky than good, although I'm not sure that chance is at work here as Dilly and his staff are rebuilding out Sun Devil football fortunes...

What do you all think..??

Have a good day and enjoy the fresh brewed Sun Devil coffee...:)

G'day Mates and Go Devils!!!
