QUICK HITTERS…
  • With the loss, ASU falls to 18-16 against the Huskies and snaps a 10-game winning streak against Washington. The 10-game win streak was the longest active streak in the Pac-12 entering the game.
  • The Sun Devils move to 8-8 against the Huskies in Seattle.
  • The Sun Devils fall to 5-6 (2-6, Pac-12) on the year.
  • Arizona State falls to 9-10 against ranked opponents under Todd Graham. Sun Devils had won just five games against ranked opponents prior to Graham’s arrival in Tempe.
WE’LL TAKE THAT…
  • The two interceptions for ASU marked the first multi-interception game for the Sun Devils since the UCLA contest (3) and ended ASU’s four-game streak of not forcing an interception at all.
  • The two interceptions in the first half marked the first time Jake Browning had thrown two interceptions in a half this season and the first time he has done so since playing Arizona State last season.
  • The Sun Devils have forced six Washington turnovers in the last two games against the Huskies.
  • Kareem Orr’s interception was the seventh of his career and first this season.
  • It was the first career interception for Koron Crump.
IT’S A HARRY SITUATION…
  • For the second straight week, freshman N’Keal Harry led all ASU wide receivers with 114 yards on six receptions.
  • With his 114 yards tonight, Harry set a new ASU record for receiving yards by a freshman. Harry has now recorded 608 yards this season – breaking Zach Miller’s 2004 school record for a freshman of 552. He has 49 catches on the year, seven behind Miller’s freshman record of 56.
SHUT IT DOWN EARLY…
  • After giving up a season-high 17 first-quarter points to Oregon, the Sun Devils have allowed just three total first quarter points in the past two games.
  • Washington entered the game ranked second nationally in first-quarter points per game against FBS opponents at 13.0 points per game.
IN-ZANE IN THE MEMBRANE…
  • Zane Gonzalez is now 7-of-8 on field goals of 50 or more yards this season. The other 19 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Award are a COMBINED 11-of-17 from that range.
Gonzalez has now scored a point in all 50 games he has played in in his career.
  • The field goal was his 17th consecutive make this season, the longest active streak in the country and trying his own school record.
He is now 13-of-14 on kicks over 40 yards this season and his average make on the year is from 40.9 yards.
HIGHS AND FIRSTS…
  • Jay Jay Wilson logged his first multi-touchdown game of his career, with both of his receptions on the evening coming on jump ball touchdown scores.
  • Ryan Jenkins made the first catch of his career as a Sun Devil.
  • Armand Perry finished with the first double-digit tackle game of his career, finishing with a team-leading 12 tackles.

Please Help a Fellow Sun Devil

Hey fellow Sun Devils!!

A good friend of mine and a fellow Sun Devil fan I've known for over twenty years needs help. He suffered a horrible head injury which has caused him to have intermittent seizures. This has forced him to be off work for the next month. He has already exhausted his work leave and is the sole provider for his family.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving and showing we take care of our own, I'm asking if you can to go to his GoFundMe page and contribute $10, $5, or even $1. Anything would greatly help out his family who will be wondering how they're going to make rent, pay utilities, and even give their kids a Christmas.

Thanks and GO SUN DEVILS!!

sacks

Excluding scrambles that got positive yardage, we tried to pass 39 times to their 44 .....and yet we got zero sacks to their 6

We sent 5 or 6 on 22 plays and I'll bet that they sent 5 or 6 far fewer times (4 of the 6 sacks were by DL)

Bartlett had 2 sacks and he was going against Goodman

Budda Baker had 1.5 sacks and he was untouched on 1 of those, was picked up by Ballage on another but he didnt stick with the block. Richard also chipped Baker once to prevent a sack.

Qualls had 1 going around Miller (he should have been awarded at least another .5 going inside Miller but they gave it to Wooching

Vea had 1 beating Miller

Wooching (LB) /Turner (S) had .5 each

Robertson leads the team in allowed sacks by A LOT but he was injured with 3 minutes left in the 1st half. His man beat him easily and forced Manny to step up into the pocket where he was immediately sacked for the 1st time in our 1st series. When he went out we had given up 3 sacks and Baker got one on the very next play from his safety position.

In the 2nd half we went with Goodman/Miller/McClure/McCollum/Bailey after starting Goodman/Miller/McCollum/Bailey/Robertson

True frosh QB Justin Herbert

Oregon defeats Utah and Herbert goes 30-43 324 3 TDs (including game winner with 2 seconds left and a 7 man rush) 0 INTS
13 carries, 44 yds, 1 TD

Marriota has been gone for less than 2 seasons and they were electric with their transfer QB last year and had a lot of naysayers about their ability to develop a QB. That party is OVER. On the road in a huge game for Utah, Herbert was fantastic. There are sytem

On the last 2 plays for Oregon, Utah sent 7 after the QB and had all 4 receivers VERY well covered on both plays. It took a perfect pass in the corner of the endzone and a good grab and one toe in bounds.

Weekend Walkabout

Morning Mates...

I won't be around tomorrow morning so thought I'd do this now...

Today's Topic = Has the Window of Opportunity Closed ?

Has the opportunity for ASU, AU, UCLA and the rest of the PAC South now closed in regards to gaining on USC that seems to have regained its supremacy now that it has found a QB to go along with all that elite talent is always gets..??

Graham, Mora and Rich Rod all came on board as USC was on NCAA scholarship limitations and other sanctions, so had an opportunity to gain ground on the Trojans and, perhaps, surpass them in the South but given the massive failures of all three of these programs this season and the return of the Trojans to national prominence, has the window closed..??

I think it probably has since the Trojans always have great recruiting classes, while ASU and AU aren't really all that close and UCLA has really stumbled, despite having very good classes, since Mora has been in Westwood but I want to see how you all feel about it..??

We all know that N'Keal Harry was a five star recruit that has been proven out this year during his freshman season but the Trojans have about 15-20 N'Keal Harry types on their team virtually every year and now have a QB and coach, it appears, that can take that talent to high places in both the conference and country...

I think Colorado and Utah have proven what good coaching and development can do with lesser talent and I think ASU, AU and UCLA have all proven that they can almost get to the top of the PAC in good years but I'm not convinced that any of those teams can sustain the type of success USC can sustain with good coaching and great talent every year...

What do you think..??

Now, for all you good coaching and development guys vs us Talent Is Destiny guys, I bring up Jeff Scurran, who just coached Catalina Foothills to the state Class 4A championship game with an upset win over #2 Gilbert Higley 62-37...the Falcons will take on #1 Scottsdale Saguaro next weekend for the championship...

Scurran has coached 13 Tucson football teams to the state Final Four and his record is now 217-55-1 as a high school football coach...he's been at schools that had talent and a history of achievement but also coached some very pathetic programs at Santa Rita HS and Pima College and made them very successful, by any measure, so there is something almost magical about what he does, no matter the circumstance...

Catalina Foothills was 0-10 four years ago before Scurran was hired and has never been accused of having an abundance of talent the way Scottsdale Saguaro does but here the Falcons are under Scurran, so it isn't any sort of a coincidence, as the man definitely knows what he is doing...

I'm still a Talent Is Destiny guy...that I think Scottsdale Saguaro will prove once more next weekend when they play Catalina Foothills but there are coaches out there that just have that "it" factor about them and I sure hope and trust that Todd Graham can figure out how to get that "it" factor going on defense one of these days...

I know we need more talent on defense but also know that our coaching there hasn't been all that great either...

Well, here's hoping we don't get too embarrassed by the Huskies later today...;)

G'day Mates and Go Devils!!!

SDSU Rushing

Rashaad Penny #13 in FBS in average yards per carry @ 7.76, 101 carries, 784 yds
Juwan Washington #14 in FBS in average yards per carry @ 7.60, 43 carries, 327 yds
Donnell Pumphrey #41 in FBS in average yards per carry @ 6.59, 270 carries, 1,779 yds

They only pass 18 times per game for 139 yards
Rush 48 times per game for 294 yds

Obviously they play TERRIBLE competition (Cal is probably the best team they have played) but I found it interesting that no matter who they hand the ball to, he will be picking up 7 ypc

This story is gaining traction on Twitter, probably nothing to it. Whether he was a victim or not, and depending how he's viewed...he used incredibly bad judgement as a business deal is concerned, mostly wreckless when you borrow a substantial amount of money and need to rely on a secondary pay check to pay off debt...and that paycheck is coming from a University.
