ASU Hockey @ DU in 9 days! January 6 and 7.

Thought I'd post this again if there are any locals or people who will be in Denver in 9 days.

ASU Hockey is coming back to Colorado!

We've established an ASU section for both games on Friday & Saturday, January 6-7. Seats are lower level behind the "ASU Shoots Twice" goal and can be purchased NOW at a reduced price of $21 per.

Head to the link below and type in promo code: ASUHOCKEY (in all caps). It will then take you to choose between both games, and then subsequent screens will let you pick seats and pay.

ASU Hockey @ DU in January

What is a Meaningless Bowl Game ?

If it is meaningless to you it has to be meaningless to everyone ?

(I have watched 0 games so far and expect it will be less than 10 when they have all been played)

Is it the record of the teams playing ?

Is it the number of people who attend ?

Is it the day that it is played on ?

Is it the TV rating ?

Many will say all of the above.

Who does this game hurt ?

I did not follow the Minnesota situation, but near as I could tell it was due to player suspensions not the game itself.

Now for my solution:

Like many; increase to 8 for the playoff (that would be 7 games total right). I cant decide it it should be the 5 power five champs and 3 at large or 8 at large. I am leaning 8 at large.

I would increase the regular season by one game and make strength of schedule very important to my choice of teams.

There is almost a month between the last regular season game and the semi's. I would cut that to 2 weeks but have two weeks between each of the next game.

I would have 6 more bowls game; the sites selected upon research on which cites bring out the most people.

Like my tax plan this has many flaws and what ifs

Rivals vs Scout Player Rating

From time-to-time I look at Scout to see how they rate the players ASU is recruiting. On the football side Scout is not that much different on most of the players. On the basketball side Scout ranks all three of our 2017 commits as 4 stars. Rivals only ranks one with a 4 star. Does anyone know why the difference. Perhaps this has been discussed at length before, but I would like to know. Thanks.

Fire Arians

What was he thinking of calling a run after they just stopped Seattle on 4 downs with seconds left on the clock. If the Cardinals lose by 3 points you can blame him. What an egotist. It reminds me of years ago, I think it was against Oregon. Snyder calls a handoff, we fumble and lose the game. All we had to do is kneel down. That is what Arians should have done.

Sleeper Alabama OL hoping for Sun Devils offer

I recently caught up with unranked 2017 state of Alabama offensive lineman Mason Langley to get the latest on his recruitment. He's a guy who has netted five offers in the past few weeks and a several other schools seem to be checking him out. Arizona State appears to be one of them. Obviously this seems like a long shot, but I wanted to pass it along as a name to tuck away down the stretch just in case.

Here's what he had to say:

In His Words: "All my coaches are expecting some bigger offers. I played well in the state championship game and we’ve been getting good feedback from coaches. I’m talking to Arizona State right now. They pulled my transcript and stuff so I think I might be getting an offer from them. I don't know a lot about them but that would be a big offer for me. I think I fit in pretty good to their offense. We run sort of a zone-blocking offense so the steps and my role would be kind of similar. But I think I can adapt to any type of offense.

You can read the complete update and watch his senior film here.

Minnesota, with 31 days to prepare for Wazzu

and missing 3 of their 4 starting DBs (who were suspended) and I believe they lost yet another DB to injury during the game. (They also had 2 less bowl practices than Wazzu due the the boycott).

The result......Falk was 21-34 for 154 yards, no TDs, no INTs thru 3 quarters, 190 passing yards until the prevent defense with 2:00 minutes left and a 17-6 lead allowed him to get to 30-51 for 264, 1TD and 1 INT

I'm doubting that Minnesota's 3 backup DBs are better than 3 of our starting DBs

Wazzu averaged over 40 ppg over the regular season and were held without at TD vs Minnesota

A source tells me that Paul Lucas...

...wants to get as close to home as possible after transferring from Oregon State. I'd be a little surprised by Arizona State taking that chance after what Lucas pulled on signing day 2015,

NAU or San Diego State seem to make more sense. I know there was some question about whether he'd go JuCO, but I don't believe he'd be able to play at the JuCo level since he played as a freshman and sophomore in Corvallis.

Believe it or not, there's ANOTHER 2017 local on ASU's radar

You may very well see ASU come in on another 2017 local defensive end- Daniel Callender of Yuma Catholic.

This is still a pretty relevant thread when it comes to locals. Here's what I wrote on Callender below:

"I drove out to watch the 6-6, 230 DE play last year and saw someone with exceptional size, but didn't flash against a lower level of competition. Much like My-King Johnson, he's gotten stronger from junior to senior year, but still needs a lot of work as a pass rusher. I always wondered if an FBS team would take a shot on him as a project, and those questions were answered this week when Illinois offered, and I saw him out at the ASU/Wazzu game. It needs to be stressed that this kid is physically gifted- you can't teach his size. If ASU offered Callender they'd probably need 2-3 years of development before he could contribute, but the ceiling is high."

He actually visited ASU during the Washington State game. He has offers from Illinois and Wyoming. I've always seen him as a lesser prioritized option than Jalen Harris, My-King Johnson and Odua Isibor for most teams, and one who's given the benefit of the doubt over a proven DE in Andrew Nichols of Centennial because he's 2 inches taller.

...but even I have to admit the strides he's made as a senior impress me.

Here's tape from his playoff game against Show Low

What's interesting about this film is that it finally shows me the agility, and dominance at the point of impact over lesser players that I didn't see as a junior. He's faster and stronger.

My guess is that ASU's interest indicates that Isibor, Johnson and Harris are all leaning elsewhere, but I don't absolutely know that to be true.

Here's my best, brief, breakdown of each of those guys so you know what ASU would be getting if it landed any of them.

Jalen Harris: Long, athletic, good awareness of what the OL is going to do. Downside is he's skinny, which can be addressed. Could develop into an interesting OLB prospect a la Dion Jordan- much less physically gifted, but better defensive instincts going into college.

My-King Johnson: Johnson is to pass rushing what Qualen Cunningham was to run-stuffing. He just looks like he was born to do it. Unlike Cunningham, Johnson wasn't strength training like a madman early on. Johnson's biggest issue has always been whether he can get stronger and maintain his fluidity. So far he's shown that he's on his way.

Odua Isibor: I talked to several opposing coaches and players who had to deal with him this year. He's not to be trifled with. Strong, aggressive, smart, hard-hitting, and a quick learner. He's still a tad inexperienced, but that's easily remedied. He's a solid developmental coach's dream.

Andrew Nichols: Not being 6-5 is his biggest sin. Every military academy and ivy league school wants him. I spent the entire D5 championship talking to a Princeton coach who flew all the way out just to see him and gauge if they had a shot.

Daniel Callender: 6-5.5, 235, rapidly getting better but still largely untested. Not as athletic as Harris, but he can move well. I've watched him play basketball. Not as natural as Johnson, but has a little bit of a larger frame to build on. Not as impactful as Isibor, but few players in the state are. Doesn't have the all around game of Nichols.

Of the 5, Callender is the biggest risk, and potentially has the second highest ceiling behind Isibor. If ASU were to offer, you'd have to think that it wouldn;t exactly excite the fan base, but they'd have a pretty good shot to earn his commitment.

Weekend Walkabout

Good afternoon mates...

Today's Topic = It's just a game

That's what my wife used to tell me after I was acting like an idiot following some game where my team lost and I was upset...

I think the same holds true in the game of life as well...

The only thing that truly matters in life are our families, other loved ones and our health...

For if you have those things, then you have all that you really need although, if you were a Cubs fan, what happened this year puts icing on the life cake in Chicago, at least...

All glory is fleeing while having the love of your family and friends surpasses everything else, even ASU football, etc...

So, I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and remember what matters most in life this holiday season...

I won't be posting anything tomorrow and will be with family and friends to celebrate the season and life...

I hope all of you do the same...Go Devils!!!

ASU Basketball - after Creighton

We lost by 11 but this was a great effort tonight to fight back from being 22 down.

Hurley has us on the right track...right Mr. Wooten! Last year was about seeing what ASU had. This season is about setting a baseline. Next season is about developing an identity. The year after is about creating a tradition.

Unlike with our last coach you can see what Hurley is building here.
